Reddit Monitoring keeps showing "Failed to Start Scan". What's causing it?
Updated June 30, 2026 · Reviewed by [email protected]
This is a known, real issue: starting in June 2026, Reddit began throttling unauthenticated RSS requests to roughly one request per 60 seconds per IP address. A single Reddit Monitoring scan needs to make 30 to 60 RSS requests, so under that throttle most of them get rate-limited (HTTP 429), and the resulting backoff cascades into the scan timing out entirely.
Trakkr is rolling out a fix that routes scans through an authenticated per-account RSS feed, which is exempt from that throttle. If you're hitting this repeatedly, retrying sometimes succeeds depending on timing, but it isn't reliable until the authenticated path is active on your account; support can confirm whether it's enabled for you yet.
